DATA PROTECTION

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 28, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Academind GmbH processes personal data when you visit academind.com, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us, or interact with content and links on this website. Personal data means any information that can identify you directly or indirectly.

pro.academind.com is a separate Academind Pro website. It is an Academind-branded Teachable school and is technically hosted, provided, and operated through Teachable. See section 10 below for details.

1. Controller

2. Overview Of Data Processing On academind.com

We process data that you provide to us directly and technical data that is generated when your browser loads this website. This may include your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, message contents if you contact us, and technical request data such as IP address, browser and device information, requested URLs, timestamps, referrer URL, status codes, and transfer metadata.

We process personal data in particular to:

  • Provide this website and its content reliably and securely.
  • Protect the website, server, and network against abuse and attacks.
  • Respond to support, business, and general contact requests.
  • Deliver newsletters and related email communications.
  • Measure aggregate website usage with cookieless analytics.
  • Load optional third-party content only after your interaction.

3. Hosting, Proxying, And Content Delivery

The website application runs on a self-managed virtual private server hosted with Hetzner. Our server automatically processes technical request data to deliver pages and assets, keep the website secure, investigate errors, and prevent misuse. Server logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted or overwritten unless longer retention is necessary in an individual case, for example to investigate security incidents or enforce legal claims.

The public website is proxied through Cloudflare and uses Cloudflare for DNS, security, caching, and image resizing. Cloudflare may process technical request data such as IP addresses, requested URLs, security events, and request metadata to provide these services.

This processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interests are secure, reliable, fast, and abuse-resistant website operation.

4. Legal Bases

Depending on the specific processing activity, we rely on one or more of the following:

  • Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR for consent-based processing, such as newsletter signup.
  • Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract performance and pre-contractual measures.
  • Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR for compliance with legal obligations.
  • Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for legitimate interests such as website security, service operation, troubleshooting, analytics in aggregate form, and responding to non-contractual inquiries.
  • Section 25 TDDDG where storing information on, or accessing information from, your terminal device requires consent and no statutory exception applies.

5. International Data Transfers

Some service providers we use are based outside the European Union or may process data in non-EU countries, including the USA. This can apply in particular to Cloudflare, Umami, YouTube/Google, EmailOctopus service infrastructure, and Teachable. Where required, we or the respective provider rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, Standard Contractual Clauses, or comparable contractual protections.

6. Storage Duration

Unless a more specific retention period is stated in this Privacy Policy, we retain personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected. If you request deletion or revoke consent, we delete the data unless legal retention obligations or other legally permissible reasons require longer storage.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to request, at any time:

  • Access to the personal data we store about you.
  • Rectification of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure of data where the legal requirements are met.
  • Restriction of processing under the conditions of Art. 18 GDPR.
  • Data portability where processing is based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means.
  • Withdrawal of consent with effect for the future.
  • Objection to processing based on legitimate interests under Art. 21 GDPR.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority. For Academind GmbH, this may be the Bavarian Data Protection Supervisory Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht), without prejudice to any other competent authority.

8. Main Website Processing On academind.com

Cookies And Browser Storage

The Academind website application itself does not set cookies and does not use cookie-based tracking. Our own website code does not store newsletter or analytics decisions in cookies or browser localStorage.

If you choose to always load YouTube videos, we store that preference in your browser's localStorage under the key academind.youtubeEmbedsAllowed. This value is stored only on your device, is not sent to Academind as a separate preference record, and is used only to load YouTube embeds automatically on future article visits. You can revoke this preference by using the button shown below automatically loaded YouTube videos or by clearing this website's data in your browser.

If you open third-party websites, use third-party services, or choose to load optional third-party content, those third parties may use their own cookies or similar technologies under their own terms and privacy policies.

Cookieless Analytics With Umami

We use Umami Cloud, provided by Umami Software, Inc., for privacy-friendly, cookieless website analytics. Umami helps us understand aggregate website usage, for example page views, referrer URLs, browser and operating system information, device type, approximate country, and timestamps. Umami does not use cookies in its tracking code, does not track visitors across websites, and is configured to respect Do Not Track signals and exclude URL search parameters.

We use Umami on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is understanding how the website is used so we can improve content, navigation, performance, and reliability without identifying individual visitors.

Newsletter Data

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address and the data required to manage your subscription, confirm your signup where applicable, send newsletter emails, and document your consent. Newsletter delivery and subscription management are handled through EmailOctopus (Three Hearts Digital Ltd, United Kingdom).

Newsletter processing is based on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter email or by contacting us.

Server Log Files

When you access this website, our server processes technical request data including IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, requested URL, time of request, status code, and transferred data volume. These logs are used for security, stability, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention and are retained for 30 days.

This processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Requests By E-mail Or Telephone

If you contact us by email or telephone, your request, including all resulting personal data such as your name, email address, phone number, message contents, and related correspondence, will be processed for the purpose of handling your inquiry. Depending on the inquiry, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 6(1)(c), or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

YouTube Videos

Some articles may include YouTube videos from Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. These videos are not loaded automatically unless you previously chose to always load YouTube videos. A connection to YouTube/Google is established only if you actively choose to load the video or if your saved browser preference allows automatic loading. We use the YouTube no-cookie embed domain where possible, but after loading the video, YouTube/Google may still process technical and usage data under their own responsibility and may use cookies or similar technologies.

Loading YouTube videos and saving the related browser preference are voluntary. To the extent personal data or terminal-device information is processed because you load a video or save this preference, this is based on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25 TDDDG. Instead, you can also open videos directly on YouTube, where YouTube's own terms and privacy policy apply.

Google Web Fonts (Local Embedding)

This website uses fonts by local embedding. The font files are served from our own website infrastructure, so no connection to Google servers is established for font loading.

External Links And Social Platforms

This website links to external websites and social platforms such as YouTube, X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Facebook, Instagram, Discord, and Teachable. If you follow those links, the respective provider is responsible for its own data processing.

SSL / TLS Encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this website uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the switch from http:// to https:// in your browser address bar and by the lock icon in your browser.

Rejection Of Unsolicited E-mails

We object to the use of contact data published in connection with mandatory legal notices for sending unsolicited advertising and information materials. We expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of unsolicited promotional information, such as spam emails.

9. Academind Pro Links And Course Promotions

academind.com contains links to courses, memberships, checkout pages, and account areas on pro.academind.com. Following such a link takes you to a separate website and may also redirect you to Teachable-controlled checkout or authentication pages.

10. Separate Academind Pro Website On Teachable

pro.academind.com is a separate website from academind.com. It is an Academind-branded school, but it is technically hosted, provided, and operated through the Teachable platform. Teachable is responsible for the technical platform operation, authentication, account infrastructure, checkout, payments, subscriptions, platform-side cookies and similar technologies, platform security, and Teachable's own processing of personal data.

When you use pro.academind.com, the following additional terms and policies apply:

  • Academind Pro Privacy Policy: https://pro.academind.com/p/privacy
  • Academind Pro Terms of Use: https://pro.academind.com/p/terms
  • Teachable Privacy Policy: https://teachable.com/privacy-policy
  • Teachable Terms of Use: https://teachable.com/terms-of-use

Academind may receive limited student and customer data from Teachable, such as name, email address, enrolled or purchased products, progress, certificate information, order and refund metadata, support messages, and related account administration data. We use this data to provide course content, administer student relationships, respond to support requests, communicate about orders or accounts, handle refunds and abuse prevention, and comply with legal obligations. Depending on the context, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b), Art. 6(1)(c), or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
